Buying a full tub is a lot easier when you already know you like the flavour. That's really where protein samples earn their place: try a few brands and styles first, then spend the bigger money once you've found one you actually want to drink.
If we were building a first sample order, we'd mix it up rather than buying ten versions of the same thing.
Start with a classic whey
Per4m Advanced Whey is an obvious starting point if you like dessert and bakery flavours. The range has covered everything from Sticky Toffee Pudding and Caramel Biscuit to Churro Pretzel and French Toast Maple Swirl.
Naughty Boy Whey is another good flavour test, with familiar options such as Cookies & Cream and Salted Caramel alongside sweeter bakery-style flavours.
Those two are where we'd start if your main question is simply: which whey flavour do I actually like?
Then try something completely different
Add a Per4m Whey Hydrate if you're curious about clear whey. It drinks more like a fruit drink than a creamy shake, so it's a much more useful comparison than ordering another dessert whey.
NXT Beef Protein Isolate gives you another non-standard option, while Applied Nutrition Critical Whey gives you another traditional whey to put up against Per4m and Naughty Boy.
What else can you try?
We've also carried samples from CNP, NXT Pure Whey Deluxe, tbJP, Ghost and Applied Nutrition trial sizes. We keep those references because they're useful products to know about, even when a particular sachet or flavour isn't on the shelf at that exact moment.
If one catches your eye, use our Protein Samples collection to see the current selection and pick your flavours.
How we'd build a £10-ish taste test
Pick two whey flavours you already expect to like, one flavour that's a bit of a wildcard, and one different format such as clear whey. That gives you a much better idea of what you want from a full tub than four nearly identical chocolate shakes.
Try them on different days and mix them the way you'd normally make a shake. You're judging whether you'd happily drink it again, not whether the flavour is interesting for three sips.
Do samples work out cheaper?
Not per serving. You're paying for the convenience of a single sachet. The saving comes from avoiding the much more expensive mistake of buying a full tub of a flavour you can't stand.
And you don't have to graduate to a tub at all. Plenty of people prefer sachets because they can keep changing flavours or throw one in a bag without carrying a tub around.
Where we'd start
For a first order, we'd put Per4m and Naughty Boy at the centre because the flavour choice makes the comparison fun, then add one clear or alternative protein to see which style of shake you actually prefer.
Once you've found a winner, that's the time to look at the full-size tub.
